Hello! I just made my own natural lip balm and I wanted to share my recipe with you. I am an addict and it’s my hand bag essential all year long!
But have majority of my lip balms so far been toxic? Not a long time ago I learnt about the number of harmful ingredients included in majority of lip cosmetics such as parabens, petrolatum and titanium dioxide. So I decided to go natural! Inexpensive, easy to make, no more new plastic containers and they smell so nice!
Natural balm recipe
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 tsp natural organic honey
- 1 tbsp almond oil
- 2 tbsp beeswax pastilles
- 10 drops lemon essential oil
Step-by-step to prepare natural lip balm
Prepare containers
Start with getting your lip balm containers ready. Following the principle of reusing items at home, I checked all my drawers and hand bags and found multiple half empty or old lip glosses. A quick wash in a soapy water, creative help of my daughter and my new shiny pots are ready!
Mix oils
Prepare double bath to melt beeswax with oils. I used a medium size pot and a metalic mug. Heat the water and pour olive oil and beeswax first. Mix fast. Add the almond oil and continue stirring.
Add essential oil and honey
Finish off by adding honey and your favourite essential oil. Choose the one you like really. You might want to add those that are soothing and smell nice. Those most recommend are:
- peppermint
- orange
- lime
- lemon
- vanilla
- lavender
They set fast!
Now it is time to pour them to your containers. Do it fast as the liquid you just prepared turns fast into a solid block. I had to reheat my mixture as it set so fast.
Enjoy your natural lip balm! And let me know if you like it as much as I do.
